Career summary
I have been a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon since 2012, specialising in upper limb surgery within a major trauma centre. My work spans both acute trauma, major trauma and elective upper limb and arthroplasty. I currently serve as clinical director for trauma at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS foundation trust - a role that's given me a broad view of what it takes to build and lead a service, not just a career.
Alongside clinical practice, I'm active in research, with several peer-reviewed publications and currently work as principal investigator on a number of studies. I hold an MSc in Leadership and managerial development, with a dissertation focused on psychological safety - a subject that continues to shape how I think about teams, culture, and what allows people to speak up, take risks, and grow within surgery. I'm chair of the RCSEd Hunter Doig Women in surgery group, and a former president of the 58 society, the long running Mersey orthopaedic trainee association - both roles reflecting a sustained commitment to supporting others through their surgical careers.
Together, this experience has shaped how I approach mentoring: I'm particularly interested in helping people navigate the practical and cultural barriers in surgical careers, build confidence in leadership, and create environments - for themselves and their teams - where it feels safe to ask questions, admit uncertainty, and grow.
Outside of medicine, I'm married with four children. I like to relax playing the piano and saxophone, along with walking swimming and skiing. I have a keen interest in photography and recently gained my drone pilots licence.

I want to be a mentor as I value the guidance and encouragement I have received throughout my career and am committed to helping others achieve their professional aspirations with confidence and resilience. As a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon and clinical leader, I can offer a mentee experience in clinical practice, leadership, education, research, and career development, together with a supportive, confidential environment in which to discuss challenges and opportunities. my aim is to empower mentees to identify their goals, develop their strengths, and navigate the complexities of surgical training and practice while fostering wellbeing, professionalism, and lifelong learning.
