Why Join BOTA as a medical student?

BOTA is a non-profit organisation that works to promote and improve the standards of orthopaedic training in the United Kingdom and to represent the interests of orthopaedic trainees and medical students considering a career in surgery. 

How to Join BOTA

Membership with BOA includes a membership to BOTA for medical students (£16 annually).

Membership of both organisations allows you to take part in a range of opportunities and events including both the BOA Congress and BOTA Congress separately.

Prizes

There are 2 main prizes available to medical students via a valid BOTA membership:

The Medical Student Essay Prize

Annual BOA Medical Student Essay Prize

APPLY HERE

The winning essay will receive the following:

  • BOA-recognised certificate

  • £100 prize money

  • Invited to sit on the BOA Education and Careers Committee for 1-year as a student representative

  • Oral or Poster presentation at the BOA Annual Congress 2020

We are offering 1 x £500 and 2 x £250 bursaries to help fund a medical elective, in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery, either in the UK or abroad this academic year (2020/2021).

The bursaries are open to all undergraduate medical students in a UK medical school. The Deadline for application is 14.02.2020 @ 23:59.

Applicants will be informed by 14.03.2020

Every year we need enthusiastic medical students to help us run our annual BOTA Congress. 

You get the opportunity to be involved in our national conference and a certificate of appreciation.

If you are interested, please email student@bota.org.uk

As BOTA Medical Student Rep, you become a full member of the BOTA committee helping to shape the BOTA agenda and engagement with medical students. 

You will be responsible for liaising with our undergraduate surgical societies as well as the key to organising student-focussed sessions run by BOTA at our Congress!

Bare Bones is aimed at medical students and above to help build your orthopaedic knowledge for finals and prepare you for a career in orthopaedics.
