Career summary

I qualified from Newcastle University and remained in the North East as an Anatomy Demonstrator and for my Basic Surgical Training.  After a period of lab based work and having a baby I started my Higher Surgical Training in the North East before transferring to the East of England where I completed my Registrar training and a TIG fellowship.  I have recently been appointed as a Hand and Wrist Surgeon in West Suffolk Hospital.

 

I am an ATLS Instructor and member of AO faculty.  I lead the AO International Mentorship Programme and the AO UK&I Community Culture Group. I was previously the HEE Supported Return to Training Fellow and now deliver Orthopaedic Return to Training courses.

Why do you want to be a mentor and what can you offer a mentee?

I was a trainee for many MANY years, having time out or working LTFT for maternity leave/parenthood and ill health (multiple hip operations).  I have experienced how much of a positive impact having a mentor can bring during challenging times when trying to balance training/home life/health and maintaining sanity! Having experienced this I am keen to help others during their challenges and provide an outside perspective.
