“Most trainees live in or around Bristol or Bath to make all hospitals commutable. Due to the geography and the option to preference posts, trainees can feasibly live anywhere in the region.”

“Trainees can preference jobs every six months. They are usually in the same hospital for 12 months at a time. Preference is normally granted to more senior trainees first.”

"Severn deanery consistently scores very highly (usually top) in the national trainee survey. We have an excellent registrars group (BORG-Bristol Orthopaedic Registrars Group ) that coordinates teaching, courses and research as well as socials and sporting events. We have excellent representation in BOTA (British Orthopaedic Trainees Association) and at the BOA (British Orthopaedic Association) meetings. We also have strong links with fellowships across the world.

 

We have a tertiary major trauma centre, with further tertiary spine centres, frames and limb reconstruction.

 

We have well established links with Bahir Dar in Ethiopia with registrars travelling to teach and gain valuable experience several times per year for 1-2 weeks at a time. "
