“A variety of locations. Exeter, Torquay, Newton Abbot, Plymouth - these locations make commuting to Torbay, RD+E and Derriford manageable. When working at North Devon or Royal Cornwall, trainees tend to live nearby in Truro for Cornwall, and Barnstaple area for North Devon.”

5. How are rotations are allocated?

 

“Rotations are usually planned 2-3 years in advance. On the most part, rotations are allocated, but as you get more senior and certain hospitals offer better experience in certain subspecialty practice for individual trainees, there is potential for giving a preference.”

"Great location for water/sea sports. Nearby to Dartmoor for other outdoor pursuits. Fantastic area for cycling, sailing, surfing etc. There are lots of opportunities to be involved in research projects with our research collaborative (SWORD). The fortnightly teaching is excellent and, certainly pre-COVID, offered the opportunity to examine patients and discuss cases relevant to the FRCS exam."
