Rotation Highlights


Katie Hoban

Katie is currently a ST4 in Trauma and Orthopaedics in NHS Tayside. She completed her medical training at the University of Edinburgh, graduating in 2017. Prior to this, she completed an undergraduate Neuroscience degree, also in Edinburgh, graduating in 2012. In 2017, she moved to Glasgow for Academic Foundation Training. During this time, she completed a Masters in Surgical Sciences. She relocated to Tayside in 2019, having successfully interviewed to train as an Orthopaedic Registrar.

Katie’s area of subspecialist clinical interest is upper limb and her research endeavours are focussed on shoulder and elbow issues; most recently exploring reasons for patient dissatisfaction in subacromial decompression surgery. Academically, she is also interested in metastatic bone tumours.

Katie is the President of our regional research society, Tayside Orthopaedic Research Collaborative (TORC). She also holds the positions of East of Scotland representative for the British Orthopaedic Trainees Association, and Trainee Committee Member for the Royal College of Surgeons.

Outside of work, Katie is a keen runner, competing regularly in marathons and half marathons and enjoys Munro climbing.
