Rotation Highlights
North West Thames is a prestigious rotation run through Imperial College and is based at St Mary’s Hospital which is also the regional major trauma centre. Trainees are allocated to a number of set rotations so they are able to plan where they will be for the duration of the rotation, and have ample time to organise house moves etc.
Teaching is curriculum/FRCS orientated and covers all topics over a three year period. The rotation is one of the smallest geographically which means that trainees are generally able to base themselves in one area over the course of training and that travel between hospitals is easily facilitated.
ABOUT THE REP
Bashaar Aweid
I am an ST6 trainee in North West London currently working at St Mary’s Hospital. I graduated from Barts and The London medical school through which I also completed a BSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine. I started my surgical training in Wessex and soon after completed a postgraduate MSc in Clinical Education which I aim to incorporate into my practice. I strongly support BOTA’s role in orthopaedic education and in advocating the position of trainees. I am approachable and very happy to discuss any training or regional queries with current or prospective trainees.
