LOST Tribe Audit Project – Update!

The Lost Tribe data collection period was 18th-22nd January 2016. The BOTA membership have been actively involved, with over 220 collaborators from 99 hospitals, making this project the largest trainee-led audit ever.

A data steering group is currently working through the minutia of how to present the data to the world. Collaborators will be sent their local and national data in the coming week, in order to disseminate. We aim to publish this work in an Orthopaedic journal to highlight the results more widely.

In brief summary, 911 doctors (plus 31 rota gaps) in 99 T&O departments in the UK had their clinical activity recorded for a week in January. Of the 186 Core Surgical trainees in the participating hospitals, only 10 met the minimum requirement of 2 trauma lists, 1 elective operating list, and one fracture clinic as outlined by the JCST Core Quality Indicators.

More information will follow in due course. The BOTA committee would like to thank all members that participated in this national audit. Certificates have been emailed to all collaborators for the purposes of ISCP portfolio evidence. Please email losttribe@bota.org.uk with any queries.
