We have reinstated the popular RSM Trauma Symposium as a face-to-face meeting this year. Many of the UK’s recognised trauma experts are contributing, and the course aims to provide an update on most aspects of trauma practise.
The timetable is specifically geared towards the trainee, with a parallel stream on the basic science aspects of common topics, and the content is aligned with the FRCS curriculum. The format of short lectures, case-based discussions and surgical masterclasses aims to encourage audience participation and facilitate learning.
Objectives for 2022 include
- Discuss evidence-based treatment of common fractures & have knowledge of the latest prospective clinical trials
- Understand latest principles in fracture healing & gain knowledge of effective therapies for non-union
- Revisit surgical techniques in shoulder, elbow, forearm and wrist injuries
- Apply new concepts for fixation of tibial plateau and pilon fractures
- Understand recent advances in supracondylar femoral fractures
- Evaluate and apply new concepts for treatment of open fractures
- Gain understanding of spinal trauma for the non-spinal surgeon
- Explore concepts of safe trauma treatment in a post-Covid environment
