Dear trainees, our friends at World Orthopaedic Concern have an excellent opportunity for anyone interested:
‘Dear BOTA members,

WOC-UK has long standing links with Ethiopia which have strengthened and developed over recent months. A number of visits are planned by experienced UK based orthopaedic surgeons over the rest of this year.

David Jones is preparing for his second trip to the Black Lion Hospital in Addis Ababa and will be travelling from 18th September to 1st October. David’s wealth of experience and gifts as a trainer are greatly valued by the consultants and trainees in Addis.

Ideally we aim for visitors to go to Addis in pairs and therefore we are looking for another individual to join him on this trip. An ideal person to join David Jones would be an experienced trainee (post-FRCS) with an interest in trauma and overseas work.

The focus of the trip will be largely to provide hands on training during wards rounds, outpatient clinics and operating theatre sessions. Financial support is provided for the trip.

With this planned trip just 6 weeks away, there is still time to book the leave with your employer but anyone interested would need to act quickly.

Any of us involved in the link would be happy to discuss in more detail by email or telephone. Please contact either myself ([email protected]), Deepa Bose ([email protected]) or David Jones (I can put you in contact with if you do not know him personally)

Kind regards,

Laurence Wicks

P.S. please look out in the next edition of BJJ news, where a report is due to be published from visits made to Ethiopia last year. You can also read Saqib Noor’s insightful daily journal, written during a visit in May, on the World Orthopaedic Concern UK facebook page!’
