The BMA is about to put out a statement on out-of-hours working for all junior doctors. Essentialy it will say that we want to retain the educational benifits from working at night and weekends. This is the concluding paragraph:
The educational benefits of out-of-hours training are clear and we do not support moves to change junior doctors’ working hours to remove the out-of-hours component. To this end, we call upon all the medical Royal Colleges, Postgraduate Deans, PMETB and other stakeholders with a responsibility for structuring or approving training to ensure that all trainees continue to gain appropriate experience of out-of-hours working during the Foundation Programme and during Specialty Training.
Do you have any comments on this and / or specific things that you get (training wise) from working out of hours?
