IFSSH Young Surgeons Committee Membership 2020–2022
The Organising Committee of the IFSSH & IFSHT London 2022 conference (combined with FESSH) is looking to establish a Young Surgeons Committee to support the planning and delivery stages. The committee will focus on the requirements of young hand surgeons from around the world (including residents, fellows and early years consultant surgeons) with particular reference to training and education, fellowship opportunities and free paper sessions.
We seek to recruit up to seven members at the current time, although it is expected that the committee will be expanded further after the initial planning stages. This dynamic committee of volunteers will be representative of UK hand surgery practice, with a balance between orthopaedic and plastic surgeons with a commitment to hand surgery. We invite expressions of interest from motivated individuals who hold a National Training Number (NTN) in trauma & orthopaedic or plastic surgery at various stages in their training, including those who are current hand fellows.
The Committee will comprise a Chair (Mr Matthew Brown), two deputy chairs (Miss Eleanor Davidson, BOTA representative, and Mr Justin Wormald, PLASTA representative), international trainee representatives and initially up to seven members recruited from across the UK. The Committee will meet regularly (approximately monthly) online and to a lesser frequency in person (i.e. at BSSH events), and also work closely with the main organising executive committee, led by Mr David Shewring and Mr Jonathan Hobby, and the overseas group. Ahead of the conference, committee members will help co-design sessions relevant to young surgeons, provide a trainee voice for all conference content and organise short observership fellowships at UK hand surgery centres of excellence for international trainees. During the conference, members will help ensure its smooth running and be linked with consultant surgeon session chairs.
