As previously, if you hold an StR, SpR or LAT post, you fulfil the criteria to join the BOA as an Associate Member.  New ST trainees are also eligible to join the BOA  (as an Associate Member) if they hold a run through number.  You can download an application form from the BOA Website.  Associate Membership of the BOA includes the combined  (both British and American volumes) subscription to  the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery and automatic membership of BOTA.  If you have any queries please contact the BOA Membership Secretary or phone on 020 7406 1762.

This type of membership is classified as FULL BOTA Membership.

There is now a JUNIOR BOTA Membership, which is available to all other qualified doctors in training.

If you are a FY1, FY2 or Core Trainee, you are now eligible to join BOTA only (as a Junior BOTA Member).  Please download an application form and standing order mandate and return with a supporting letter from your Educational Supervisor or Programme Director, to the BOA address stated on the form.  Junior BOTA membership includes a copy of the BOTA Yearbook, access to the website, and access to all BOTA and BOA trainee orientated events.   Please note, there are no journals are included with the Junior BOTA Membership.  The annual subscription for BOTA-only membership remains unchanged and is currently £30.00.

A Junior Members Representative (without voting rights) will represent Junior BOTA Members on the BOTA committee, as an invited member.  This post will be elected each year at the BOTA AGM from 2011 by a vote of Junior BOTA members, in the same manner as the other posts on the BOTA committee.  Junior BOTA Members will have no other voting rights on Committee or within the AGM/EGM.

Only doctors in approved training programmes are eligible to apply.  Please contact the BOTA secretary if you wish an exceptional application to be considered.

Once trainees obtain a National Training Number in Trauma and Orthopaedics, they should inform the BOA Membership Secretary and their membership can be upgraded from Junior to Full BOTA membership.
