The British Elbow and Shoulder Society BESS has five Fellowships awarded annually, Three of the Fellowships, each to a value of £3500, are also available to Orthopaedic Trainees ST7 /ST8 who are Members of BESS and the Terms and Conditions for each of the Fellowships are available on the Members section of the BESS website.
Interviews for all of the Fellowships take place at the annual BESS Congress prior to the AGM but only Members of BESS can apply for a BESS Fellowship.
Applications for new Members to BESS are considered once a year at the BESS AGM held at the BESS Congress. To become a Member of BESS, applicants must have attended at least one BESS Congress which can be the same Congress at which the Membership application is submitted but Fellowship applications can only be made by a Member of BESS and Fellowship applications have to be received by the closing date which is always prior to the annual Congress.
If an Orthopaedic Trainee wishes to apply for a BESS Fellowship they must have become a Member of BESS at a Congress prior to their Fellowship application.
Therefore, if an eligible orthopaedic trainee who is currently not a member of BESS would be interested in applying for these Fellowships in 2019 he / she would have to apply for membership and attend the BESS Conference in 2018 which will be held in Glasgow between 20-22nd June.
